Madrid's municipality has announced a special traffic plan coinciding with the celebrations for Spain's triumph in the 2026 World Cup, following their victory over Argentina in the final, amid expectations of a large public turnout.
According to "Mundo Deportivo," the plan includes traffic closures and restrictions around the national team's parade route and Cibeles Square, with the possibility of implementing them gradually based on crowd density.
The closures will include several major streets, most notably Cibeles Square, Paseo del Prado, Paseo de la Castellana, Alcalá Street, Gran Vía, and Colón Square, in addition to Serrano and Goya streets and the surrounding area of Puerta de Alcalá.
The newspaper added that the national team's bus journey from Moncloa to Cibeles Square will impose temporary traffic restrictions, so the Madrid city council recommended avoiding the use of private cars in the city center.
The municipality has called for the use of public transport, enhancing Madrid's metro services and adjusting several EMT bus lines, alongside relying on the M-30 and M-40 ring roads for long-distance travel.
Mundo Deportivo has confirmed that the restrictions will also include some parking areas near Cibeles Square, with closures to be adjusted or lifted gradually after the celebrations and the return to normal activity.
