Nottingham Forest has officially announced the signing of Austrian midfielder Xaver Schlager on a two-year contract, making him the first signing under new manager Oliver Glasner.
Xaver Schlager joins Nottingham Forest from RB Leipzig, where he spent four seasons and served as the team's vice-captain during the 2025-2026 season. He made 30 appearances for his club last season, before starting all four matches for the Austria national team at the World Cup this summer, bringing his international tally to 55 matches.
The 28-year-old midfielder boasts significant experience in European football, having begun his career at Red Bull Salzburg before moving to Germany, where he played nearly 200 official matches, including 15 in the Champions League. He has previously worked with Glasner at Wolfsburg, and the duo successfully led the team to qualify for the Champions League.
Zaver Schlager stated after his signing: "I am honored to join Nottingham Forest, a historic club with a great legacy. I was looking for a new challenge, and I am happy to work again with Oliver Glasner. The club's ambition is high, as is mine, and I want to contribute to the team's return to European competitions. I will give my all for the club and its fans."
