Spanish defender Pedro Porro sent an emotional message to the stars of the 2010 World Cup-winning team, emphasizing that their historic achievement 16 years ago has been a source of inspiration for the current generation that clinched the 2026 World Cup title.
During a conversation with former goalkeeper Pepe Reina after the triumph, Reina addressed the national team players: "Enjoy every second of this celebration with your fans. You have made millions of Spaniards happy, and that alone makes being a footballer worthwhile. Enjoy every moment."
Boro said: "Thank you very much, Pep. I told you before that just being here is a great honor for me. Last night I watched that documentary again about the 2010 World Cup final... and when something works, there's no need to change it."
He added: "You have inspired many players who still look up to you with admiration today, and I am one of them. I am a huge fan of all of you. This version of the World Cup is also for you, because what you achieved in 2010 benefited us and inspired a whole generation."
Boro's statements come after Spain's triumph in the 2026 World Cup, adding a second star to their jersey, 16 years after their first global title won by the golden generation led by Iker Casillas, Xavi, Iniesta, Pepe Reina, and their teammates in South Africa in 2010.
