The management of Racing Santander is moving towards finalizing the signing of Spanish star Sergio Canales in one of the club's most notable moves during the current transfer window, according to local press sources in Spain.

The information indicates that the deal is in its final stages, with a mutual desire between both parties to complete the anticipated return.

Canales, whose contract with the Mexican team Rayados de Monterrey has ended, will be available to join Racing on a free transfer, which facilitates the signing process within the club's financial capabilities.

The club is considering a flexible contract format extending until the summer of 2027, with an option for an additional year based on objectives, known as the "1+1" format.

From the management side, club president Manolo Higuera confirmed that the player's return represents a significant technical addition to the team, noting that Canales is capable of giving Racing a "qualitative leap" on the field, in addition to his symbolic value as one of the club's prominent sons.

Racing's management hopes to finalize the deal officially soon, amidst an atmosphere of optimism within the club and among the fans. They view the return of Canales, the former player of Real Madrid, Betis, and Sociedad, as an important step to bolster the team's ambitious project for the new season after their promotion to the first division.
