Spanish duo Fabian Ruiz and Gavi received an exceptional reception in their hometown of Los Palacios y Villafranca in the Seville region, following their contribution to Spain's triumph in the 2026 World Cup. They were presented with an unusual gift consisting of a quantity of tomatoes equivalent to their weight, as part of a famous tradition in the city.
Fabian Ruiz received nearly 70 kilograms of tomatoes, while Gavi received a similar amount ranging between 68 and 70 kilograms, from the local tomato producers' association, in celebration of their accomplishments with the Spanish national team, alongside an official recognition from local authorities.
This gift is not just a passing gesture, as the city of Los Palacios is renowned for its tomato production, and it has a tradition of honoring its champions in this way. Jesús Navas was previously awarded a quantity of tomatoes equal to his weight after winning the World Cup with Spain in 2010, and the tradition was repeated with him following subsequent international achievements.
The honors didn't stop with the tomatoes; the city also announced the naming of two local stadiums after Fabian Ruiz and Gavi, in addition to creating a memorial that includes them alongside Jesus Navas, commemorating their achievements as the city's prominent figures who led Spain to global glory.
