Leeds United has officially announced the signing of Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic from Italian side Sassuolo, on a five-year deal at Elland Road, bolstering the squad ahead of the new season.
Moharimovic is 23 years old and stands 193 cm tall, having delivered an impressive season with Sassuolo in Serie A. He also caught the eye during his participation with the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in the 2026 World Cup, where he played three matches and contributed to his country's advancement to the Round of 32, marking the best achievement in Bosnia's World Cup history. Additionally, he played a full 120 minutes in the qualifying playoff matches against Wales and Italy, which Bosnia secured through penalties.
Haramović will become the first Bosnian player in the history of Leeds United, making Bosnia the 29th UEFA member nation represented by a player in the club's colors.
On the international stage, the defender played his first match for the Bosnia national team at the age of 21 in a friendly against England, bringing his total to 17 international appearances. He scored his first goal in 2025 against Slovenia, the country where he was born, in a match where he faced his new teammate, Jaka Biol.
Marhamovic started his professional career with Austrian side Wolfsberger before moving to Juventus, where he made 57 appearances for the "Next Gen" team. He then transferred to Sassuolo, contributing to their promotion to Serie A, and went on to play 33 matches across all competitions during the 2025-2026 season, scoring two headed goals from set pieces.
According to Opta statistics, the Bosnian defender ranked third in defensive clearances in Serie A last season despite missing six matches. He also excelled in aerial duels with a success rate of 64.4%, the highest among all current Leeds players who have played over 900 minutes. His younger brother, Kenan, is following in his footsteps, currently playing for the reserve team of Rapid Vienna in Austria.
