Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo is preparing to return to Barcelona training on July 20, following his extended rest period after participating with the Uruguay national team in the 2026 World Cup, despite missing matches due to an injury in his right calf.

Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Araujo visited the Joan Gamper Sports City in recent days to undergo a medical examination, in preparation for joining the team's training ahead of the new season.

The Barcelona captain is entering the next phase with the goal of regaining his spot in the starting lineup, and he will hold a meeting with coach Hans Flick to discuss his role for the upcoming season.

The report indicated that the competition for the center-back position will be fierce, as Flick relied on Araujo last season in both the center-back and right-back roles, with several options available in the backline.

The Spanish newspaper added that what Flick communicates to the player during their meeting will be a significant factor in determining his position within the team in the upcoming period.

Meanwhile, Diego Simeone continues to monitor Araujo's situation, seeing him as a defender that fits Atletico Madrid's style, and he may consider making a move to sign him.
